The Knot Boards

I'm addicted!!!! I have been on the boards very night for the last week until like 2-3am getting ideas, etc. My favorite is the Destination Wedding board. It is full of different things to do for the different aspects of a destination wedding. My favorite thing I am looking forward to making are my out of town bags. Since EVERYONE is coming from out of town, I want to make sure they are really special. I have been doing lots of research and I cannot wait to start putting things together. The question is......how soon is too soon to start buying and making "the little stuff". Some of that little stuff takes alot of time. Is it crazy if I start gathering things now? Hmmm....I wonder. I'm so excited!!!

No Time To Mess Around!!!!

Ok, so I have been a bit of a slacker with my blog....NO MORE!!!! Too much stuff to do. I leave in two weeks for Jay & I's vacation with his family to North Carolina. While I am there I have to meet with the following people:

  • Officiant
  • Caterer
  • Bakery
  • Florist
  • Party Rental Place (Chairs, etc)
  • Photographer
Plus I have to take TONS of pictures of the space so my wonderful helpers can help me design a design concept that will be beautiful, practical and hopefully inexpensive. Wasn't this supposed to be a vacation? Lol. I am actually very excited about this trip! I just wish I would have my mom or someone to help me with the vendor appointments. Jay is planning on going to some of them, but I don't want to bog down his whole vacation with planning. He needs to golf!! :)

I am really excited and have been throwing lots of ideas around.....but I'm too tired to talk about them tonight. I will write more tomorrow!

Looking for Vendors....

So I have been looking diligently to find wedding vendors, both in North Carolina and here in Michigan. Jay and I will be taking a trip July 10-17, 2010 with his parents to enjoy the beauty of NC and to set up some vendors in person. I am REALLY excited! We will be staying at the same rental house that Jay's family will be at next year for the wedding. This, most likely, will be the same house that we will be having the ceremony/reception. So we will be getting married the same week next year - July 9-16, 2011. Haven't decided which day yet. Check out a picture of their beach house that they are going to rent that week! And the picture of the beach we will most likely get married on!

So, we are planning on having a big BBQ Open House reception went we get back from our wedding, probably the end of July-beginning of August, 2011. We have been looking for different venues in which to have it. I am leaning towards Friendship Park in Lake Orion. It is nice and close and we can rent both the outdoor pavilion and the indoor meeting room so that we have electricity, etc. I was thinking about having my Mom bring the karaoke machine. Could be fun.....

Here are some photos:

So, whatever it is we decide, I am sure it will be an absolute blast. I am just psyched to actually be able to start planning. Tax season got ahold of me and I was SOOOO busy! Looking forward to vacay in NC!

North Carolina or bust!!!

Alright, well we have made a BIG decision. We decided instead of doing the big fancy wedding here....we are gonna do a small oceanside ceremony on Holden Beach, North Carolina and then come back home and throw a huge BBQ. I can just imagine it now.....the waves rolling in as we are walking barefoot through the sand to recite our vows with the sound of waves crashing behind us. I mean, come on! That's like a dream right?

Yeah, I know that means we don't do all the fancy first dance and stuff like that, but you know, I think all that would make me uncomfortable anyway. No huge ballgown and no tuxes. The guys can wear shorts for all I care! :) I will wear a simple white dress that will show off my hopefully smaller figure and it will be perfect!

The one thing we will still be doing a little bit bigger than a normal small ceremony is the bridal party. We had already asked everyone in it and cannot imagine not having them beside us. So, as long as they don't mind taking a small vacation to North Carolina, they will still be in as planned. Shouldn't be all that hard since most of the bridal party was family anyway, and they will be there either way! I am so excited! We are trying to research rental houses and stuff so we can nail down a date. We will keep you updated!

Cha-ching!!!!

Well, Jay and I went venue shopping on Saturday. HOLY COW!!!! Yes, living in Metro Detroit mean we have a TON of choices of venues. But geez....why is it the minute you say "wedding" everything triples in price? And they tell you a package price per person and then they hundred dollars ya to death! Extra hundred for this....extra hundred for that...all things you would assume would be included in a "package" price. I don't know....we are really starting to wonder how we are going to have a non-trashy wedding without spending an arm and a leg.

I would just go small, but we really can't. We have a huge family. Correction...I have a huge family. With Jay and I's immediate family, aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins.....we're over 150 people already. Damn family :) But I don't want to cut anyone out. I love having them around. I am a huge family person. So, we will just have to figure something out.

So now we are looking for separate caterers and halls like the Knights of Columbus. We have looked into rental places for round tables and all the things that make a wedding reception feel like a wedding reception. And luckily I have my sister, Stefanie, near me to come with me and look at places and discuss design concepts with me. She is so incredibly creative. Much like my sister, Holly. Holly's wedding was in an armory which is much like a gymnasium....but you would have NEVER known it. It was one of the most elegant weddings I had ever been to. So, I am hoping to find a place that we can give our personal touch too. I am hoping I can take the wonderful ideas and such from my sisters and throw a little of us in there......and not have to be paying it off for the next ten years. WISH ME LUCK!!!!

A Major Surprise

For all you who know me, what I have decided for a color scheme for my wedding may be a bit of a shock to you. But after much perusing and deliberation I have decided to go with.....

Tangerine, Hot Pink and Lemon!!!!

I know that is kind of strange for me, but since we have decided to have a summer wedding, bright colors seem to be in order. I LOVE it! I have so many ideas for this color scheme and I think the planning of this is just going to be so much fun! I want to tie all of my things into this color scheme so you will see that I have changed the color format of my blog.

This is going to be a blast!!!!!

Cake Toppers....comical or serious?

So I am having a ton of fun looking at wedding stuff, obviously. Something I looked at a lot today was wedding cake toppers. I know, that is such a small insignificant detail, why would I start looking at it now? However, it is the small insignificant details that I always seem to remember at a wedding, so that is why I am thinking about it. But the question comes down to "Funny or not Funny?" I personally think that your wedding cake topper is one way to insert a little of yourself into an elegant occasion. And if you know me at all, I am kind of leaning towards at least a little funny.

I found one cake topper that made me crack up, but I would never have it on my wedding cake. It would embarrass Jay too much. Might be funny to put on a cake for a bridal shower or something though. It was called "Women in Charge". It just made me laugh because people tease me all the time that I am the one who wears the pants, although it is completely NOT true. It is always good to laugh at yourselves though.

I have also found some really sweet ones that aren't funny that I have liked. The first one is just a sweet dancing couple with rhinestone hearts behind it. Very pretty, very sweet and very elegant. I could definitely see us using something like that...but it's so typical. Not so much us as EVERY other bride. But, a little elegance never hurt anyone.

The next one I saw was a sweet little child couple. It was just so innocent looking. SO SWEET! But again, not really distinctive of us. I may go with it though because it is a nice compromise between typical and different. I have a LOT of time to decide though.

One of my favorite ones that I saw while looking though is the football couple one. It is just reminiscent of Jay's love for football and my new love of the sport. I never knew that I could ever be excited for Sunday to come so I could sit around and watch football with him all day, but it is becoming one of my favorite Sunday traditions. This cake topper just kind of reminds me of that tradition. It is definitely in the running. It also has a BRUNETTE girl. What is it with all these BLONDE cake topper girls? What about us brunettes?

I obviously have quite awhile to come up with awesome cake topper ideas, but it was fun to get a start on it. I really enjoyed looking at all of them and picturing them on my cake. So, what about you? Comical cake topper or serious one? Why did you choose yours?
