A Major Surprise

For all you who know me, what I have decided for a color scheme for my wedding may be a bit of a shock to you. But after much perusing and deliberation I have decided to go with.....

Tangerine, Hot Pink and Lemon!!!!

I know that is kind of strange for me, but since we have decided to have a summer wedding, bright colors seem to be in order. I LOVE it! I have so many ideas for this color scheme and I think the planning of this is just going to be so much fun! I want to tie all of my things into this color scheme so you will see that I have changed the color format of my blog.

This is going to be a blast!!!!!

Cake Toppers....comical or serious?

So I am having a ton of fun looking at wedding stuff, obviously. Something I looked at a lot today was wedding cake toppers. I know, that is such a small insignificant detail, why would I start looking at it now? However, it is the small insignificant details that I always seem to remember at a wedding, so that is why I am thinking about it. But the question comes down to "Funny or not Funny?" I personally think that your wedding cake topper is one way to insert a little of yourself into an elegant occasion. And if you know me at all, I am kind of leaning towards at least a little funny.

I found one cake topper that made me crack up, but I would never have it on my wedding cake. It would embarrass Jay too much. Might be funny to put on a cake for a bridal shower or something though. It was called "Women in Charge". It just made me laugh because people tease me all the time that I am the one who wears the pants, although it is completely NOT true. It is always good to laugh at yourselves though.

I have also found some really sweet ones that aren't funny that I have liked. The first one is just a sweet dancing couple with rhinestone hearts behind it. Very pretty, very sweet and very elegant. I could definitely see us using something like that...but it's so typical. Not so much us as EVERY other bride. But, a little elegance never hurt anyone.

The next one I saw was a sweet little child couple. It was just so innocent looking. SO SWEET! But again, not really distinctive of us. I may go with it though because it is a nice compromise between typical and different. I have a LOT of time to decide though.

One of my favorite ones that I saw while looking though is the football couple one. It is just reminiscent of Jay's love for football and my new love of the sport. I never knew that I could ever be excited for Sunday to come so I could sit around and watch football with him all day, but it is becoming one of my favorite Sunday traditions. This cake topper just kind of reminds me of that tradition. It is definitely in the running. It also has a BRUNETTE girl. What is it with all these BLONDE cake topper girls? What about us brunettes?

I obviously have quite awhile to come up with awesome cake topper ideas, but it was fun to get a start on it. I really enjoyed looking at all of them and picturing them on my cake. So, what about you? Comical cake topper or serious one? Why did you choose yours?

IT HAPPENED!!!!

After many years of waiting, I am FINALLY getting married!!! My wonderful fiancee proposed to me on December 11, 2009 and I accepted! We are just getting started in the planning, but I wanted to update the blog that my little sister Holly inspired me to write. She had a blog all through the planning of her wedding, and it was exciting to read. You felt like you were a part of everything even though there were miles between you. So, I am going to try it myself. Although I am sure it won't be as eloquently written as a small town bride. It will still be fun to read hopefully. I will be weighing many different ideas for many different things on this blog, so I am hoping people will read and PLEASE give advice. I am the most indecisive person in the world so any little bit helps. THANKS!!

I'm hungry......so tonight's topic is....

CAKES!!!!! Cupcakes to be exact!

I have been to many a wedding which means I have had many a wedding cake. I'm not a HUGE cake fan to begin with, but I do enjoy a little mousse-filled cake with buttercream frosting. Mmmm. Wedding cake always seems to taste better than regular cake doesn't it?

Anyway, I have seen a trendy thing lately. Cupcakes on tiered trays to look like a wedding cake!

How cool is that!?! I love cupcakes. And this idea is just so neat. My dream would be mousse-filled cupcakes with buttercream frosting. And arranged neatly like the picture above. I love that they have one little cake on top so you can still do the cake cutting tradition with your groom. And there is still room for a cake topper! And honestly, if you are skilled in the baking area, this could be DIY project! Cupcakes are a heck of a lot easier to make than a wedding cake and can look just as nice. Whoever thought of this was a genius! Ok...now I'm REALLY hungry!

Engagement Rings

So, as I had said before, I have been engaged once and almost engaged another time (he had set aside the money and I had picked out my ring) so that means I have gotten two engagement rings already. Well, almost two...I picked out the other one...never received it though. Lol. The first one was a surprise so obviously he had picked it out himself. The second one, I was given a budget and I picked it out myself. I have to say I liked the not knowing better.

My first proposal was actually something out of a storybook. Too bad the relationship wasn't. Lol. He picked me up for a drive and took me to "my spot". "My Spot" happened to be the steps of the college library I attended. I used to sit on the steps at night and write poetry. If you look from these steps out into the campus there is a big fountain and two rows of trees lit up from below. It almost looks like the Washington Mall. It is a wonderful place that had a lot of meaning to me. He took my hand, said his speech about how much he loved me and dropped to one knee to propose. The ring was beautiful. (See above) I think half the beauty of it was that he went and picked it out himself. And it really was perfect for me at the time. I really couldn't have picked out a better one for me if I tried. I was privileged enough to wear that ring for a little over a year while I started the excitement of planning my own wedding. It was an excitement that I cannot wait to have again.

Then that relationship folded as it was just not meant to be. I met someone else after that and was with that guy for 3 and a half years. We talked about getting married through most of it but were just waiting for "the right time". Little did I know the right time wouldn't come. We had done everything towards that ultimate goal including him getting a loan for a ring while I picked it out. Now mind you, I would have rather him picked it out as I think the thoughtfulness is half the beauty of it. However, he was not comfortable with that. So I picked a ring that at the time was perfect for me. (See above) I was looking foirward to being able to wear it as I thought it was going to be everything I dreamed of (the relationship that is), however a week after he took care of the financial end, he ended our relationship. As I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, I am not upset about it, but it was a beautiful ring.

So here is the question I would like to pose to you. Which is better - picking out your own ring or having him pick it out for you? I personally would like him to pick it out for me. I think it is a true test to how well he knows you and I think it adds some excitement to the whole process on his part. If and when I get the pleasure of doing it all over again, I hope that is what will happen.

The first of many....

Alright.....so who out there saw the movie "27 Dresses" and thought to themselves "They made a movie about me!". Chances are alot of you.... because I thought the same thing.

The phrase "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride" has rang true for me for quite a number of years. I was in my first wedding as my mother's maid of honor at 13. Like the character in the movie, I loved being there to help the bride with anything she needed. And the same has been true for the number of weddings I have been in since. Actually even ones that I haven't been in. I have watched my younger sister get married and will watch another younger sister get married soon. I have been engaged once....almost engaged another time.....but still never been through with it. And trust me...it's not the "Runaway Bride" syndrome. More like the "Runaway Groom"....lol.

Let's get down to business though. This blog isn't going to focus on the fact that I'm lonely, or the fact that I am depressed that I haven't gotten married or even the fact that I have been so close with no successes. Who wants to read that right? The truth is...I love weddings. I love everything about them and have been watching wedding shows and buying wedding magazines since I was 14. I am going to use this blog has an idea machine. I am dating a wonderful man (and have been for over a year) and if it ever comes to that (you know....getting married), I want to be armed with ideas that will make our wedding the wedding of our dreams....but at a good price. So I will be sharing lots of DIY wedding ideas and if anyone wants to comment on them, by all means. I love comments! I am seriously the world's most indecisive person in the world and always enjoy other people's opinions...even if they aren't the same as my own. So...in advance....thank you for reading!
